The 2022 Georgia Bulldogs didn’t just defend a crown, they built a dynasty. Kirby Smart’s team stormed through the regular season 13-0, flattening opponents with a blend of relentless defense and a suddenly explosive passing attack. The SEC Championship Game win over LSU secured the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff and set up a New Year’s Eve showdown that will be etched forever in Georgia lore.

Under the lights of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Dawgs staged one of the most heartstopping comebacks in program history. Trailing Ohio State late, Georgia roared back behind Stetson Bennett IV and a cast of clutch playmakers. A perfectly timed touchdown drive put the Bulldogs ahead, and as the clock struck midnight the Buckeyes’ potential game-winning field goal sailed wide left. It was a victory equal parts skill, resolve, and pure destiny.

A week later in Los Angeles the contrast could not have been sharper. In the gleaming trophy stadium of SoFi Stadium, Georgia rolled to a 65-7 demolition of TCU, the most lopsided bowl game in college football history. Bennett accounted for six touchdowns, the defense forced turnover after turnover, and the Dawgs turned the national title stage into a four quarter victory lap.

The 2022 season delivered the first ever back-to-back national championships of the CFP era, and firmly established Georgia as college football’s modern standard. From the nail biting escape against Ohio State to the gleeful romp over TCU, the Bulldogs showed they could win with grit, with style, and with history on the line.

It was, in every sense, a banner year in Athens.
